Letterpress is a form of relief printing. It uses either wooden or metal letters that come into direct contact with the paper or card. Each letterpress print is unique, it is never exactly the same as the previous print. It generally has imperfections, and is also very tactile. Metal and wooden type can leave a deep impression in card that can be felt. The ink fills the impression and has a shiny dense look that is not achievable using modern printing techniques. This form of printing is particularly suitable for special occasions such as weddings, christenings, formal dinners, high quality business stationery etc. A business card or invitation printed this way has a heavy, tactile quality feel to it that is impossible to achieve using digital or litho printing methods.
